RIP Piotr G. You were one of my
favourite guitarists of your
generation in one of my favourite
rbands. Every time new Riverside
material was announced I was most
excited to hear your sumptuous
tones and emotional lead playing,
and was looking forward to many
more years of great music with
ryour involvement. Wherever you
are, you will be sorely missed, but
you will live on through your
rmusic. RIP

I'd say it's superb. Only casual listeners
whine on a lack of complex esthetical hooks
instead of digging the given deeper,
especially when the given derserves it that
much. Stripped down music intentionally
highlights the lyrics, and here they are an
absolutely adequate, fair and rewarding
keypoint. I love how seamlessly and freely the
melody rules such deep topics - not an easy
thing to do. It's a very thoughtful and
consistent conceptual album, and I'm surprised
that this fact is often overlooked by fans,
for me it was one of the first albums which
pushed me to analyze itself thematically,
alongside with Karnivool's 'Asymmetry'. It
seems like a very just and mature confession
of a disillusioned man, but it's not a call to
arms, it's rather an appeal to reason, a
suggestion to find the strength to accept that
there is no fatal disappointment one cannot
overcome.

If contemplation is as important as on the preceding record, Love etc now features dynamism - big yay - in the form of notable basslines that keep the tempo groovy. Riverside keep proving they're one of the most consistent modern prog (ugh) bands with engaging compositions, virtuous musicianship, and a lush atmosphere. Ofc it's too long tho.

Undeniably the band's most mature work, Love, Fear and the Time Machine sees the band return to
their roots with a more mellow and bright approach as opposed to the gloomy atmosphere utilized in
their previous albums.
