I hate deliberate throwback or retro style records, but this is a nice showing of a band playing to their influences. I wish the whole album had the whimsical guitar sound of Unicorn Farm and was a little weirder, but this vocal styling is much more complimentary to their singer and there?s enough interesting stuff here to hold my attention. Oh, it should?ve been a few songs shorter too. I ought to check out Low Country.

So, so boring. I tried to like this album a bunch of times, but it really is just uninspired crap. I'm all for bands trying to expand and grow, but this sounds like a band trying to be something it's not, or trying to be something it definitely shouldn't be. I wish they had kept going in the direction they were headed on Warp Riders. This album makes me really concerned for the future of one of my favorite bands.

Variation from past records was much needed for The Sword in order to put out something fresh for their 5th
album, and they definitely switched things up. There is some really catchy stuff on here. However, this album
feels really packed with filler at times.

On High Country, The Sword does away with almost all heavier leanings, going for a more stoner rock-esque and
psychedelic approach. While a change of style is always fine, The Sword royally screw up this chance at
experimentation by sounding like generic throwback rock. Honestly this was a huge missed opportunity.

It definitely sounds like The Sword but there's certainly a different feel to this one. Slightly less heavy and might remind one of some 70's hard rock/prog. Still a ton of great riffs with a new sense of melody to go with it so it's another excellent addition to their already great discography.
