A powerfully underrated debut by a powerful underrated band. The story behind this and the band is well known by fans and general listeners, so I won't rehash it. For any lover of 90's music, jam rock, or just a positive sound in general, this album is highly recommended.

Shannon Hoon adds optimistic hippiness into the despairing world of 90s grunge. No Rain was the band's obvious huge breakout single and an arguable top 10 release representative of the decade. However the real gems on the record contemplate the intricacies of family inner relationships. Time is an absolute gorgeous closer.

... Wow... I've never heard such an impressive first album from a grunge band of the early 90s. I'll admit the similar artists were what originally had me interested in this group: Led Zeppelin, the Melvins, and even Candlebox (the lesser of the three). Somehow this album brilliantly blended a bluesy 60s/70s rock w/ an inclusion of garage rock guitar play and vocals that are akin to a male Janis Joplin. As odd as the mixture appears, the sound must be heard to be believed how good this is.

Blind Melon is far and away one of the most overlooked bands of the grunge movement. With this album they prove that they were more than a match for the Big 4. In my opinion, this album easily surpasses any Nirvana record.
