"My Hero" and "Everlong" are the highlights of this enjoyable classic that alternates between soft and hard rock.

A very solid performance by Dave Grohl Inc. indeed. I personally think its there stand out album with such tracks as "My Hero", "Monkey Wrench", and my personal favorite "Everlong". However, unlike most Foo Fighter's albums, there are other songs you wont skip. The first 11 songs are pretty strong, and i find none of them filler. Maybe Doll isnt the most appropriate minute and a half opener to Monkey Wrench, but its fairly good, and it's not too sappy like Grohl's later efforts at the acoustic. Anyway, this is must for any Foo fan, Nirvana fan, and just Alternative rock jock in general. However, after Everlong i would quickly press stop. The last two songs make me cringe with mediocrity.

Everlong and My Hero have this epic nostalgic sadness that I simply cannot get enough of. The rest of the album is quite forgettable, however. And with the inclusion of songs like "See You", that are completely must-Skip, I don't think I can in good faith give this a higher rating than 3.0

Great album, definitely the Foo's best work. Like most of their records, the singles are excellent and anthemic, but the space in between is what sets this apart from anything they did after. My Poor Brain, Up in Arms, Enough Space and others add some variety not usually expected from this band.rGuitar work is well done and the bass guitar is audible and deep on many of the tracks, especially Wind Up and Enough Space. There are fantastic, memorable hooks on almost every tracks making one of the best stadium albums of the late 90's.

Possibly the best album ever made. DEFINITELY and BY FAR the best Foo Fighters album. Wasting Light can go fly a kite in comparison. This is how the Foo Fighters rock hard, and rock good, and memorable, not Wasting Light.rThat's a good rock album, but not a great Foo Fighters album.

This is modern mainstream rock music at its best. Along with Third Eye Blind's self-titled debut album (released in the same year), this is the best that the radio has to offer - passion, catchy hooks and not a bad song to be found. Undoubtedly the best thing the Foo Fighters ever have and ever will do.

The only Foos album worth your time or money. As good as the singles from their other albums are, nothing else has managed to be as consistent or interesting as this. Yeah, just about everyone has probably heard "Monkey Wrench", "My Hero" and career highlight "Everlong", but to leave it at that is ignoring the wealth of good material here. "Hey, Johnny Park!", "Up in Arms", "Wind Up", "My Poor Brain", heck, pretty much the whole thing is great. everything else they've released up has failed to measure up to this, but for just one album, the Foo Fighters could do no wrong. If only they could replicate such success again.

Overall, the Foo Fighters have clearly aimed for wider appeal with their second release and achieved it successfully without selling their soul. More proficient and expansive than their self-titled debut, while also containing lyrical growth, 'The Colour and The Shape' shows a professional outfit at work as even the little things such as padding out 4+ minute songs is more efficient here. While there are a couple of misses on the album, they tend to be short and the strength of the highlight tracks more than make up for that. Quite simply, this is the Foo Fighters best LP.
