Their old problem: no real hits. The sound is more In:Aviate-ish by now (which is fine), but
the vocal melodies and harmonies are all over the place again. No big choruses, no
catchiness...damn. It could have been huge. Circa Survive-huge.
Gotta wait for their next output then.

Heavily - to the point of distraction & concern - indebted to the sound of Circa Survive, San Diego rockers Idlehands simultaneously impress & frustrate on their debut LP 'Dena Mora'. Like the aforementioned comparison, this feels like one very good song done over & over again. Intricate guitar lines and Johnny O'Hagan's high-pitched voice dominate, while hooks float in & out without truly taking hold. A back-loaded record, the highlights here have some variety, with the trumpet & guest vocals on 'Mellow Christ' standing out. The lyrics will also prove divisive, bordering on nonsensical at times. Recommended Tracks: Floor of Tradition, Mellow Christ, Dena Mora & Nomad Motto.

Really cool and has its own charme but as some dudes said before... no real hits. The vocal
melodies and the overall arrangement are not matured at this point and have its problems. I like
the smooth, indie-like overall sound the band has. And maybe they can add a few more ambient or
progressive elements to their sound. That would make this all a bit more interessting i think

The vocal melodies are kinda repetitive, they fall back on the same melodies over and over on every song but it's a decent album I guess

For what it is, it's pretty solid, even if it isn't exactly original. The vocals are great and the music is executed well. An overall solid entry into this year's alt rock category.
