My second favourite Symphony X after Divine Wings. After a stylistic change on Twilight in Olympus, I wasn?t as fond of the new more powery and chorus based Symphony X. Here however, it seems they went back to more neoclassical shreddery. Still, the power elements are very much present, especially in the t/t.

My least favorite SX album by their claasics....I can't explain the fact that in Sputnik has 4.1...Except for the title track and maybe the accolade ii, the other songs aren't something special and great...I will try to give it another change, but i think this album deserves 3/5....

As my tastes have predictably taken somewhat more of an indie-fag turn since joining this site nearly six years ago, "The Odyssey" remains one of my personal favorite albums, and one of the highlights of the power/progressive metal scene.

A few strong moments and one classic track aside, this album falls short of what the band has shown themselves capable of. Even so, this is a very stellar album all told that, when working to its strengths, delivers like few others can. Unfortunately, these aren't dominating moments as was so in The Divine Wings of Tragedy.
