Varied and atmospheric, with enough ambient moments to boot, Helios/Erebus hosts a lean yet subtly potent collection of tracks perfect for simultaneous relaxation and stimulation. If, like me, you're new to post-rock, this is an excellent place to start.

Heavier than their other albums (eg Vetus Memoria, which sounds like Russian Circles), it does not bring anything new to the genre or the band, but this is extremely well-done and engaging heavy post-rock.

The skepticism that comes with predominantly Greek song-titles from a non-Greek band is overpowered by a post-path of refined tone-centric prudence and impeccable flux -- perhaps a bit prosaic at its core, but winning-n-worldly when it comes to transitioning from rigid+urgent rock-outs to pensive+shimmery atmospherics and slow-jams. Notable qualities include the ability to resist dragging sections out into tedium, upholding persuasive space-aura throughout, and the interjection of pianos/the most faintly tender vox ever. As far as the English titles go -- who knew something named "Pig Powder" could exude beauty?

their best work to date. it's close to a 4.5. really atmospheric and well laid-out tunes. also the song 'Helios Erebus' itself is a masterpiece. check it out!

i think calling this a copy of themselves isn't very fair. this album feels distinctly different from their last album, far more reminiscent of earlier records (the end of the beginning and a moment of stillness especially) but with some of the best ambient sections and textures they've ever done, as well as some of their heaviest moments. it's a decent album. somewhere between a 3 and a 3.5.

A copy of the copy of it's own copy. Great band - in the past - God Is An Astronaut delivers music, which is secondary, boring and somewhere has been already played by something. All fine technically, though, but it simply is not new and original.
