I didn't find a single song that could hold my attention. Best deathcore release ever? No, I'm pretty sure The Contortionist still holds that title.

One of the most beautiful deathcore albums ever written. The singles are great (apart from blood moon which falls a little flat and stops this album from getting a 5 for me), but the rest of the album is equally fantastic. The closer track is monumental.

Awesome album from a talented band that really excels at bringing emotion to heavy music. This has ra lot more variety than Neverbloom but keeps the best of what makes the band who they are. The rsymphonic elements are as strong as ever, and Sean Harmanis, while mostly putting his piercing rshrieks aside in favor of new styles, once again proves that he is one of the most talented rvocalists around.

Very solid symphonic deathcore/ metalcore album from a young Aussie band. Strong emotion presented with confident vibes throughout, Old Souls brings feelings of love, hate, fear, anger throughout its entirety. Nothing earth shattering but consistent symphonic metal thats genuinely inspired and passionate.

So your typical genericore band contemplates throwing in symphonic influences, eventually deciding to stick with them whilst staying true to the code of "br00tality". While there exist acts that have the ability to cautiously string together death metal, orchestra-inspired arrangements, and metallic hardcore music, there's quite a slew of bands I've come across that make an effort to do so are either inconsistent quality-wise (Bleeding Through) or get perceived as laughable (Winds of Plague). Thankfully, Australia's Make Them Suffer are shockingly more perceptive about this than one would give them credit for. Old Souls has a rather keen sense of sadness about it, though the poignancy doesn't interfere with MTS' heavy, passionate sound most of the time - and instead embraces it like a child would his misunderstood rabid dog. What also helps are Sean Harmanis' deliciously emotional shouts and screams throughout much of this, occasionally harmonizing with keyboardist Louisa Burton's softer voice (check "Timeless"). I wouldn't say this is the best thing to have come out this year thus far, but for some odd reason, I can't help but adore Old Souls for a lot of things it managed to get done. Very rarely do I come across deathcore-centric releases like this one adept at possessing a fuckton of staying power, though then again, this is the bias talking.

Fun album for sure, but is it me, or does the production quality take a dive in the later songs? Scraping the Barrel, for example; the guitar tone sounds pretty inconsistent with the rest of the album.

Very clear, creative, beautiful sound. I enjoyed how it switched from the metalcore chug sound, to deathcore riffs and blast beats, to soft beautiful tones which will attract different aduiences. I say this is a miraculous album.

I listened to the stream and with the intro track expected some cheesy awfulness to ensue. What I got, while certainly complete with a layer of cheese, is a pretty great modern deathcore album. Nothing earth shattering or virtuosic, but a fun listen.

It's not quite the leap forward from Neverbloom that I was hoping, but Old Souls proves to be much
more refined and consistent in sound, and the heavier lean on melody and orchestral elements help make this
so. 'Blood Moon' is the only song that really feels out of place here, and regrettably drags the rest of the
record down. Luckily the good outweighs the bad with the likes of 'Requiem', 'Let Me In', 'Scraping The Barrel'
and 'Timeless', the latter of which remains an emotional number, only just overshadowed by the album's
closing title track.
