| 3.7 great | Erwann S. EMERITUS | September 15th 22 | Red Sparowes + Emma Ruth Rundle? Tasty shit. There thus is some post-rock, aggremented with that typical Rundle sludgy tone, as well as gazey finery. The whole lot ends up being both grounded in earthy roots yet elevated by its aerial surges. That sonic palette, while definitely dope, becomes monochrome towards the end of the record.

| 4.0 excellent | Bedex | April 3rd 20 | Compositionally this seems like a step up from Kitsune, but prod wise it goes further down which is surprising. It feels hollow, a bit distant and blurred, making the album sound more like a good live recording in lieu of a proper studio record. This adds to the feeling that this could be an awesome 'first act' band that I got in a few places. But what a first act band. The opener is weird in a good way, and offers super fun groove changes starting in the midtrack. 2 offers then a dream poppier side of the band, with great songwriting. This continues on 3-5 which all over superb dreamy guitar tones, fun drum breaks, and inventive compositions. With better prod 4 could be crazy good. 5 is perhaps their most immediate song offering great dream pop-ish vibes but with fatter, more distorted explosions. 6 feels a bit more like it comes off the prior EP but is still cool. 7 sees the band at its heaviest, and despite some questionable electronica elements it is a catchy jam with a fantastic headbangy chorus. Sadly, 8 and 9 feel a bit weaker after all that energy, and while the buildup to it is good, the album conclusion is frankly to abrupt. Still a nice, soft 3.75

| 4.0 excellent | Jared Floryan | June 18th 16 | Powder, smoke, and a lowly commoner dressed up as Dat Boi rose from the foam to make way for a special guest; a guest with much in the way of potential. Enter Salome, the first full-length recording created by Los Angeles-based rock trio Marriages, as the listener traverses through 9 songs of dreamy and simultaneously agog goodness. Like I mentioned earlier, this triad demonstrates a truckload of promise here - and even though I hesitate to call the material an overall unique experience, that's not to say Salome is an unlikable record; far from a turnoff, really. The great musicianship paired with singer-songwriter and visual artist Emma Ruth Rundle's winning vocal performance in general make Marriages' debut album a captivating quest to both hear and behold.

| 2.5 average | TheManMachine | June 21st 15 | As far as atmospherics / genre-mushing goes (dark+dreamy / er, post-metal shoegaze?), they do intrigue and show promise - but the slow-tempo opaque murk it's continuously bogged down in sucks the life out, and the Evanescence-reminiscent vocalist who murmurs verses and overdramatizes choruses never seems to quite fit in. Decent grip on a unique sound, but seems muddled and redundant.

| 0.0 | SmileNerd | June 9th 15 | I guess this album's just not really my cup of tea. I'm not really into the whole psychadelic/experimental rock thing. Drums are really nice on this though. Most of these tracks just don't really seem to have their own identity, so they're pretty forgetable. "Binge" is a really good shoegaze-y song. I really recommend listening to "Binge". The chorus is epic. I also feel like the vocals should be louder. I can barely hear what the singer is saying due to the extremely loud instrumentals, but I guess that's kind of a bittersweet thing, considering how great the instrumentals are.
