I honestly don't understand how this album can be perceived as anything but a stand out work. The arrangements are so creative and complex. On top of that, the story and music blur lines, crossing between one another and become entwined. The Dear Hunter is the best band making music today.

Although there was more ease in Act 1, Act 2 is still a masterpiece. I honestly hope all of you criticizing this album, have a swell knowledge of music, and dont just sit around listening to shitty scene music all day. There were many parts I felt were lacking throughout the album, and yes it was long; but he wasnt trying to please anybody by making this.
If you dont like the band, it doesn't mean the album sucks, it means it isnt your cup of tea. So dont call the album shitty just because you dont like the band, thats just self-centered and stupid in my opinion.
Of course relative to the grand scheme of things, this album isnt the most top-notch work. But compared to a lot of other contemporaries and current artists this is a brilliant CD.

A very complete work. Casey does the concept album as well as Coheed. The art he's producing should only add to the experience.

This is an amazingly solid record musically (faves: Bitter Suite 3 and Black Sandy Beaches). But upon re-listening, some of the lyrics are not good (Red Hands), I think Casey has acknowledged this though which is something.

Out of all the Acts, this one is the one that MAKES The Dear Hunter. Classic songs like "Smiling Swine", "Red Hands", "Dear Ms. Leading", and the greatest, "The Lake and the River" are great on their own but also excellent story-telling devices. It's not my personal favorite, but I think overall, it's got to be the objective best.

The Dear Hunter expand on the sound they established with Act I. The album as a whole is a bit long, but it doesn't feel long as its runtime flies by with a number of highlights. Casey's ability to blend styles and genres, and craft very well-written songs is very evident here. They're most "consise" album and my personal favorite of the Acts.

One of the most incredibly orchestrated albums of this age. Released in 2007, at a time when there wasn't much going on that really impressed anybody, The Dear Hunter defied all expectations, and continues to do so. This is a dynamic album, where no two minutes of it sound alike. It's an animal that is constantly changing until arriving at its foreboding conclusion. Well done to the mastermind who also wrote Between the Heart and the Synapse.

By far, the greatest piece of The Dear Hunter album that they have ever made. So varied and unique. Nothing better out there. This album seamlessly defies what is a typical orchestrated band. All of the variation is timed so perfectly in their places, that it begs the question of whether this album has one exact genre, which is amazing for a band to do. Simply their best material to date.

This is far too long to maintain any shred of interest I had in this album. Builds at far too slow of a pace... and not in an interesting, dynamic fashion. It would be okay if the music was revolutionary, but it's more-so just lame acoustic doodling surrounded by punk-tinged arena c*ck rock.
