Not much is known about Katsuhiko Maeda, creator of post-rock "group" World's End Girlfriend. Noble Records' website states, "The profile was omitted by artist's intention."
However, despite some obvious pretense, Maeda is a writer of excellent music. On Hurtbreak Wonderland, he embraces typical post-rock formulas but also blends them with elements of other genres, such as electronic and orchestral music (which really, go hand-in-hand). Harp, piano, brass, strings, drum machine, guitar, and just about everything else blend flawlessly throughout the typically long pieces.
It may be beautiful in the generic sense of the word, but there are enough quirks and twists in Hurtbreak Wonderland to keep most people interested and wanting more.

4.7: A lighter form of Rossz csillag alatt sz?letett, less risky but just as pretty.rIt is a mix of classical, glitch, break-beat, and post-rock. Majority of songs though fit under modern classical and glitch more than Post-Rock though. Cannot say more outside of this being one of the more interesting records released and one that draws a fine line between too much and too little in some of their songs. The second half of the album might be too grand for some but for those who can take it, you are rewarded with great tunes.
