Woah a Mountain Goats record about wrestling. Silly. Funny. Let's not care: this is music! And this is 2010s Mountain Goats: a couple of upbeat folky tracks disrupted by the occasional boring piano ballad. Thing is, the boring piano ballad ain't that occasional here, and it does seem like this well-concocted formula is being repeated to death.

Gets a bit too bogged down in its own concept to live up to usual Mountain Goats standards (and a bit front-loaded) but still a solid offering with some great songs. Ballad of Chavo, Heel Turn 2, and Foreign Object are my picks

These songs are pretty much either great, classic Mountain Goats, or dreadfully silly and boring. Fortunately, most lean towards the former.

On "Beat the Champ," The Mountain Goats seem content to ride on the oddity of its lyrical concepts than do anything interesting musically. It's a slow, irritating trudge of a listen.
