Defenders of the Faith is a solid and enjoyable heavy metal album. Is it the best in their collection? In my opinion, no. However there is still plenty to enjoy. The main highlight for me being The Sentinel. A pure classic song and one of my favourites from the band, varied vocal performance combined with great dual guitar work bring out the apocalyptic vibe of the lyrics. There is a varying of tempo in the songs on this album, it isn't all pedal to the metal like The Sentinel or Jawbreaker. There are some enjoyable more rock inspired tracks like Rock Hard Ride Free. Unfortunately not all the songs are as hard hitting, some mid paced uninspired rock songs derail what could have been a classic album. The ending of the album particularly being a culprit, ending on a flat and unmemorable note with the one two punch of Heavy Duty and the title track. The great songs however help to elevate this album into being a worthwhile listen and will easily find spots on metal playlists. Tracks to check out: The Sentinel, Jawbreaker, Rock Hard Ride Free

I used to think this was a 4.5, but "Love Bites" is dumb and bad, and "Night comes Down" is pretty meh too. Still though, has the best opener and one of the best closers in JP's discog, plus "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll", so it's still A-OK in my book.

Any album with "The Sentinel" on it ought to be good, and Defenders of The Faith certainly is. The boys were on a streak with platinum records, and Defenders features some of their best 80's material. "Freewheel Burning" and "Jawbreaker" are an impressive pair of opening tunes with a driving edge to them and outstanding vocals. "Rock Hard Ride Free" is a lost anthem and an excellent one at that. "The Sentinel" is the crowned jewel of the record and is one of their best songs to date. "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" and "Night Comes Down" help redeem the album's [unfortunate] weaker half which closes with a wimper. It's a shame because the first half is very strong, but this may be the band's most inconsistent 'good' album. The dated 80's hollow sound doesn't do the record favors either despite the guitars sounding nice. Still, "The Sentinel" and "Rock Hard Ride Free" are notable band classics and make for a mostly solid album.

Defenders of the Faith starts off amazing, apart from Rock Hard Ride Free. Most of the other songs are great fast songs that show great usage of both guitarists. Unfortunately, the last three songs slow down, making the albums close quite anticlimatic.

Delicious 80's cheese with real heart. The metal gods continue their foray into speed metal and make some killer tracks. I don't care who you are, The Sentinel is hands-down the best song in metal.

It has cheesy 80s production and the worse songs are corny as hell, but hey, the faster numbers are still really cool. You just can't go wrong with Freewheel Burning, The Sentinel, or Eat Me Alive, the last of which gets special props for pissing off the PMRC.

Defenders of the Faith is neither bad
album nor metal masterpiece. It simply is
what it is, an interesting album with
great songs and, well, other stuff. While is
has a strong opening in "Freewheel Burning",
closer "Heavy Duty/Defenders of the Faith"
comes up short and merely delivers an
acceptable closure.rAnother flaw is the lack
of memorability in both guitar riffs and
solos. They simply don't strike as hard as
those on other albums (such as it's
predecessor). "Love Bites" and "Eat Me Alive"
are the weaker spots, simply because they
don't work as well as the rest of the album.
What holds up this album is that it manages to
be entertaining enough to interest fans: plus,
there are great tracks on here like the
opener, "The Sentinel" and "Rock Hard, Ride
Free". Overall, a good album, but not the

catchy songs, but, Awesome songs! I think that many of them were wrote for a Live Performances, and, People must be see this album such as this respect to this sound ("Eat Me Alive", "The Sentinel" and "Heavy Duty/Defenders Of The Faith" in concert if You have the remastered release). 2nd or 3rd place in "80s Judas Priest" podium, but, even so, Greatful.

Definitely one of their best records full of classic songs like Freewheel Burning, Jawbreaker, Rock Hard Ride Free, The Sentinel, Love Bites, Eat Me Alive, Some Heads Are Gonna Roll, Night Comes Down, Heavy Duty/Defenders of the Faith....yep..that's it...all songs are absolute classics. Amazing record.
