4.5 superb | Donkey | October 4th 07 | A very fine and brilliant album. Something Rufus fans have been waiting for!! How he incorporates classical and Indie into one gives this album its unique quality, event though all his albums bring these two genres together. "Going to a Town" is the stand out of this album even though every other song is worth listening to over and over again.

4.0 excellent | bdizfoshiz | July 22nd 07 | Surprisingly, I really like this album. I never saw myself enjoying this style of music, but Wainwright has broken that wall in my musical taste. With lots of unusual instrumentation and a sort of broadway musical feel, Release The Stars will get you tapping your foot even if you hate the music it contains.

2.5 average | Iai EMERITUS | June 21st 07 | Wainwright's fifth album, Release The Stars is basically typical of the man - by this point, if you don't expect another album with a few coy gay jokes ("Between My Legs"), lots of fancy orchestration, and even more flowery melodrama, you've probably not listened to his old stuff much.
"Do I Disappoint You?", "Going To A Town", and "Tulsa" are perfectly good songs. The rest is as charming as ever. There's especially nothing wrong with this album, to be sure, but by the same token, it's missing the stand-outs that made Want Two such a stand-out album in 2004, and that ensured Poses and Want One stayed in regular rotation long after they were released. Most of his fans, and most newcomers, will probably enjoy this for about three listens, then return to the Want series for their weekly fill of homo-erotic-classico-pop.
