The Pax Cecilia's second LP Blessed Are the Bonds is forged from the same fires that gave listeners Circle Takes the Square's As the Roots Undo and Dredg's El Cielo. It is epic, original, heavy, pensive, and savagely compelling music. It is transcendent. It taps into something above normal perception and does this with a strange lack of pretention. The sound is a mix of post-rock (Engine Down), alternative (Dredg), metal (Isis), and screamo (City of Caterpillar). The musicianship and songwriting are beautiful and the emotional weight of the album is relentless. And to top it all off, the album is free (www.paxcecilia.com contacts.html).

Just bumped this to a 5. It's so beautiful. It should be overwrought, overblown and wholly incredulous but it succeeds in staying grounded and tender, which is a worthy achievement in itself without taking in to account the myriad positives this album has to offer.

Modern classical meets Progressive & Atmospheric, articulating a grand orchestra that the gods themselves envy. Parting ways with previous Post-Hardcore tendencies, Blessed Are the Bonds incorporates vast Classical influence. Gaining a far more mature understanding of composition & structure, The Pax Cecilia aren't afraid to parade their intellectualized mannerisms about, even if it is done in a pretentious way.

Post-metal's maudlin antic tries to be dramatic and emotional with ambient textures and an extreme redefinition of the soft-loud dynamic, but it just sounds contrived and ridiculous most of the time - oftentimes because of the laughably pretentious neoclassical bits, other times because of the vocalist's abhorrent chicken squawks.

I had heard a little bit about this band previously and had ever so slightly had the inkling to check them out; I was not disappointed. These guys are masters at combining several different sounds and yet still retaining their original sound.r(Update) Over a year since first listening and I still don't know what to make of this... Amazing nonetheless. 4.1/5

These guys are awesome.... I saw them at a local show in pa, they were very good, with influences of ISIS and Pelican, and vocals that churned just like cave in's. I spoke to the guitarist from this band , and he seemed to be pretty cool. This CD is a free-be off there site... So i highly suggest you look em up and get ahold of a copy. They are truly an amazing band!
