You think you've discovered everything in rap, until Nujabes comes around to kick you in the nuts with this amazing record. Incredibly refreshing, I never knew I liked lo-fi this much. With some truly magnificent tracks. Lady Brown will forever always be on repeat.

Through the bakery and into the forsaken subspace lies an urn. Its porcelain beauty on the surface is nothing to scoff at, but it's what is on the inside that truly counts - because in the object is Metaphorical Music, Jun Seba's first solo record released back in the year 2003. Under the moniker Nujabes (a reverse spelling of Seba Jun), Seba was able to create an ingenious studio album that can simply get better with age. Providing a fusion of jazz, hip hop, and rap sounds, the 15-track offering pretty much functions as immaculate background noise; when it doesn't act as such, imagine the contents of Metaphorical Music as if the album were reminiscent of one's daily life enhanced by subtlety. From nostalgia to peace, it manages to stir up various moods whilst never falling flat on its face, and the songs themselves go by quicker than you think. A moment is never wasted, certain opportunities are seized throughout the album's running time whenever necessary, and the affair is all too memorable to elude. People die each and just about every single day in our lives, that much is certain, but that dark thought in general still has the power to upset anybody regardless. Sleep well and R.I.P. hard, Nujabes, you awesome motherfucker. Some live, some die in the way of the samurai.

An album that is almost entirely instrumental has become one of my favorites. Definitely chill music, which for me is great to have on when I need to read or work or just generally veg out.

Brilliant. So calm and soothing, like watching a vanilla-crimson sun set over lapping ocean waves. Easily the most grounded and uplifting hip hop albums, if not albums as a whole, i've ever heard. In addition to the gorgeous aesthetic presented their is an incredible level of diversity between beats, giving every track it's own distinct qualities in spite of feeding into the same love-based theme.

I'll admit, I dont understand to much about Hip-Hop, and I probably understand just as little about jazz. But knowing what I like and what sounds good in each respective genre is another thing entirely. And when I heard production and quality like this against so much of the trite stuff that's produced today, it makes me wonder how rare true genius really is. rIll note the highlights but the whole album is somehow a perfect example of explosive creativity and utter finesse and focus.r-Blessing Itr-Beat Laments the Worldr-A Day by Atmosphere Supremer-Latituder

Mesmerizing & surreal, a "refreshing sound" according to a reviewer. I'm not really into hip hop, but Nujabes does it differently. They infuse elements of jazz. With many guest vocalists, Nujabes keeps it fresh. They are not bound to one vocalist. One of my favorite albums. It has the "I-can-listen-to-it-over-and-over" factor.
