Blastbeats. Pig squeals. Breakdowns. If you've heard these three things, you've heard this entire album.

This album is simply great, everything I loved about The Healing Process has returned on The Ills Of Modern Man along with much more.One of the things I love most about this album is that Despised Icon show alot more of their Hardcore influence, especially on the track A Fractured Hand. Where gang vocals and hardcore chants dominate.Don't get the wrong idea these Canadians havent completely dropped the Death and Grind in their sound. The drums are still amazingly fast, the inhales(not pig squeals) are still amazing and the best in the genre, the music it self is still crazy technical,and the time changes are just as erratic as they were before.Oh and breakdowns, you can never get enough breakdowns the opener In The Arms Of Perdition, Furtive Monologue and the title track have some bone crushing breakdowns, that makes you just want to break something. The final song Faded Blue Ornaments is probably the best on the album as it has one thing that a Despised Icon song has never had...melody! Yes thats right why it is somewhat brief, it is great and makes for one the best closers of an album I've ever heard. In conclusion this is a great, memorable effort in the deathcore genre.

A few years since it's been out, hands down one of the only deathcore releases I come back to all of the time. I just love the dual vocal work and the songs stand out a lot from one another. Love it.

"The Ills of Modern Man" is one of Deathcore's most technical and serious albums. Even with all the noise and many notes that seem to be played as a crusher, the band is increasingly becoming the titan of the style. Riffs, blast beats and a completely insane screaming dominate the album. The best of them.

Not nearly as scattershot as their debut, nor as occasionally monochromatic as "The Healing Process," there wasn't really much chance the follow-up would be any better, either (and it isn't). "The Ills of Modern Man" is the jewel in Despised Icon's crown and by far their most crushing, cohesive, inventive, and engaging record, not to mention some of the best music to rep the "deathcore" tag. Highly recommended.

Deathcore was once condemned from my perspective, a hybrid of my two initially most hated genres. However, throughout Sputnik's corruption, this isn't too bad.

Pig-squeals and breakdowns abound, with not much substance at all. A band I used to be in was good friends with these guys, and they're stand-up dudes, just not the best at writing cohesive, engaging material.

Despised Icon bring nothing new to the table, other than some intriguing inhales. The drumming for this band is some of the fastest I've ever heard, but the guitars are nothing special.

This album is basically, super aggressive. If you want to feel like you just got beaten up by a fat guy with a hammer then listen to it =] ok all imagery aside it is a good release from a talented band in a GENERALLY bland genre. Some people dont like the vocals while i think they are perfectly suited for dual screaming. I read a review of this and someone called the combination of vocals "venomous"... that is the perfect term! The riffs are explosive. The drums do well to keep the songs beat but other then that they are a little lackluster. If you like any deathcore, i recomend this album.

Ok so the cd starts off and ends with pure adrenaline. I can put my mp3 player on and run to this suff and it keeps me motivated. I am addicted to this cd and reccomend it to anyone who needs a kick start every to get things going. The song that grabbed me and got me into DI is The ills of modern man. It has it all. This is by far the best cd I have heard in a long time. A person is lucky to dig 2 or 3 tracks on a cd and that's a good buy. I LOVE every song on this cd. I am not bored as will typically happen when some cds are over listened. I will have this cd around forever. Keep up the great work guys!! Your brother in metal, Mike
