The first half of Juggernaut shows off Periphery's growth in their song writing and melody. There are a lot of "poppier" moments here, but never do these moments tear the album down. In fact, a lot of the best moments come from Spencer Sotelo's fantastic vocals. Whether its his poppy and melodic cleans or his low and furious growls, the man has proven that he has come a long way since the first album. He has improved so much. The songwriting is also at the top of its game, with Misha Mansoor, Jake Bowen, and Mark Holcomb busting out some great riffs. The band is quickly breaking their djent mold, and with an album like this, it's easy to see Periphery becoming the next Dream Theater within the next couple of years. This is a progressive metal masterpiece, and this is only the first half! 9/10

Where previous Periphery albums sacrifice melody to focus on rhythmic variation, Alpha expands on the melodic focus presented on tracks like "Jetpacks Was Yes" and expanded on in their sophomore album to appealing effect. Fans of the less tonal debut will be bothered by the more colorful melodic outings on Alpha, but can find solace in the album's heavier offerings.

nothing really blew me away while listening to this but I enjoyed it for the most part. The one thing this release does a lot better then the first two albums is it's not an hour and some odd minutes long, I really don't want to listen to this kind of music for that long. Splitting the album up makes this much more enjoyable

Resting underneath a pigeonholed furnace, progressive metal band Periphery seem to be playing it safe on Juggernaut: Alpha, the first part of their long-awaited double album. While by no means a terrible chapter, some of the more melodic elements (both helped and damaged by Spencer Sotelo's vocals) as well as the production quality are a bit disappointing. The guitar work on here is almost enough to make up for the great number of issues Alpha is carrying, even if that isn't really saying much.
