| 3.0 good | TheAJMetal | February 14th 15 | Crisp production, harmonic vocals, but overall somewhat boring songwriting and wordplay. I still don't really get the genre of power metal for the most part so I don't feel that I can give this a "true" rating, but this is just one of those things I don't see how Sputnik adores I guess.

| 4.0 excellent | leycec | January 20th 15 | The first two tracks, "The Ninth Wave" and "Twilight of the Gods," are simply abysmal. (Mandatory -1.0 deduction for early album missteps.) The album picks up considerably with "Prophecies" and maintains that symphonic momentum all the way to "Grand Parade," the genuinely triumphant closer. And yes: the production is as bad as you've heard. Actually, it's probably worse. Congeal the worst knob-fiddled mis-acoustics of "A Night at the Opera" and "A Twist in the Myth" into a murky soup of a thousand Hansis and you have "Beyond the Red Mirror." This is Blind Guardian's "Enemies of Reality." (If Nuclear Blast knew what they were doing, which they inarguably don't, they would forcibly remaster this beyond the purview of Hansi and company.) *ANYWAY*: mandatory listening for long-standing Guardian fans, but a probable pass for the standard metal connoisseur.

| 3.0 good | donovan909 | February 1st 15 | I've got to say, I never thought they would run out of killer riffs and epic vocals, but so much of this album feels tired. Every album since Nightfall has sounded a little more recycled but this just feels absolutely uninspired. As some have noted, the production is a huge factor. Like Metallica, a band this big shouldn't be having any audio engineering issues, but the production on this is anemic and doesn't serve the style well. Either way, the songs themselves don't shine, Nightfall or Imaginations didn't have A+ production but still rocked hard. Definitely not indicative of a 5 year wait....they should have had killer material developed over that time frame.

| 4.0 excellent | Ebola | January 26th 15 | Blind Guardian release another fantastic album by doing what they've always done. Every song ron the album is great in its own way, but highlights include The Throne and The Holy rGrail, the latter being one of my all-time favorite BG tracks. Will likely be one of the rtop 10 metal releases of the year. Highly recommended.

| 4.0 excellent | Antonius | February 4th 23 | Beyond the Red Mirror is a conceptual sequel to 1995?s Imaginations From The Other Side and although this one may not have the same impact as that magnum opus, it's still a magical effort. In an effort to have an epic and larger-than-life sound, the German power-symphonic metal machine worked with choirs and orchestras from around the world and the grandiose result is a confirmation that the target was achieved. The tone is set from the opening hymns of "The Ninth Wave", a bombastic nine-minute epic that is one of the album's finest moments. Follow-up "Twilight of the Gods" with its rampaging riffing and the catchy refrain, prepares for the tasteful "Prophecies". However, the track that highlights the magnificent orchestral parts is "At The Edge of Time" in which the group and orchestra complement each other in a wonderful way. "Ashes of Eternity" and "The Holy Grail" are the two tracks where the pace is picked up and both have a classic Blind Guardian aura. Recommendations: "Twilight of the Gods", "The Holy Grail", "Ninth Wave", "Prophecies".r

| 4.0 excellent | Xenorazr | November 14th 15 | Darker, heavier and more consistent than At the Edge of Time, Blind Guardian prove themselves as one of the most relevant, consistent and mature power metal bands alive today. Their sound has enough of a nostalgic core sound mixed with contemporary touches, be it from the solid production to the nice, occasional uses of choirs, to make Beyond the Red Mirror a stellar claim to the throne that their peers have slipped out of.

| 3.0 good | Trey STAFF | September 11th 15 | I'm not the biggest power metal fan in the world, but I like the occasional band. These guys aren't one of them, though. I just don't like the choir-sounding vocals that dominate this album (despite enjoing choir-like vocals on other metal albums).

| 4.5 superb | Somewhereintime | January 23rd 15 | Terrific album overall. Only songs i'm not terribly fond of three albums runs in is The Ninth Wave, and Sacred Mind. The Ninth Wave started off AMAZING, but went into the normal BG formula, which is disappointing, as that could have been a hell of a track. Sacred Mind is kind of iffy with the same problem as The Ninth Wave. Overall, this has terrific songwriting and orchestration, as seen in tracks like The Throne, The Holy Grail, At the Edge of Time, and Grand Parade. The mixing could be better, but to be honest, its not much of a complaint for me!
