I truly believe this is a perfect album. The definitive pop album of the 21st century, painting a hilarious yet heartbreaking portrait of this American generation.

This album is the second coming of Christ. Josh Tillman pours his guts out on record, and everything about it is rso emotional, real, and beautiful. I like his guts.

One of the most hilarious albums I've ever heard, and at the same time a cutting satire of love in the modern age, a collection of wonderfully arranged psychedelic folk songs with beautiful melodies, and the best album of 2015. I am willing to bet this will become one of the iconic albums of our era. Don't be surprised when this shows up on lists of both the best of 2015 and, eventually, the best of the 2010s.

i was surprised this album wasn't as good as i thought it would be. it just really wasn't all that. it had some good tracks, but it wasn't worth all the hype it was receiving (that goes for most albums that get a bunch of hype). it was good, but wasn't anything i hadn't heard.

For someone who "hates that soulful affectation white girls put on", this white guy sure seems to enjoy filtering his thick-headed sexual transgressions through lush old-timey arrangements and pompous balladry. Starts tellingly sardonic enough; sounding something like a 1950's country ballroom while FJM coos to his honeybear amidst pointing out blood & cum on the sheets and bending her over the altar. Similar eye-roll-cringe aside, there are some shining moments: the dense and bouncy "Chateau Lobby 4", the neutral and electronic "True Affection"; and could-be staple modern satire "Bored in the USA" - the only track where his candor actually comes off as graceful; until it caves in to a laugh-track gimmick.
