Underoath drummer/clean vocalist Aaron Gillespie does a Dave Grohl & not only writes every song for this side-project, but practically plays every instrument too. It's a resounding success as the harsh sound of his main band is toned down to a more conventional rock feel. Where Gillespie really shines is his ability to create hooks. The catchy & memorable 'Say This Sooner' has numerous, as does the Amazing Grace re-working 'Amazing Because It Is'. While there is no filler, a few too many tracks do unfortunately blend into each other though. Recommended Tracks: Amazing Because It Is, Say This Sooner, Southern Weather & Everyone Here Smells Like A Rat.

underoaths drummer Aaron Gillespie has come out with a side project that he has named the almost now even though Gillespie did make the entire album himself and there are minor flaws this is none the less a great album and the fact that he put so much effort into it makes up for the flaws. okay the first song off the album and first single "say this sooner" is a truly inspiring song making it the perfect song to "rock out" too then there is the second song "drive there now" this may seem like a love song at a first glance of the lyrics but the more you listen to the song the more you understand it's much more than that now then there is the acoustic "dirty and left out" now this is clearly a heart touching song about Gillespie and how he used to be one of everyday people but now has seen the light and come to god and has built a relationship with him then there is the album titled track "southern weather" now this is clearly just a "traditional rock tune and that is what I've set out to do" admits Gillespie then there are more infamous tracks like "everyone here smells like a rat" and "stop it!" which are good songs and then there is the 7th track which is a cover of amazing grace but with a twist near the closing of the song Gillespie and the full band bust out and with a quire sing the chorus twice and then put the song to an amazing close. i reccomend this album if you are a fan of bands such as seether,hinder,three days grace etc.etc than you will like the almost

I've only listened to this album through once, but I love it. There isn't anything thats stood out intrumentally yet. This band is definently based on Aarons vocals. In my opinion, if you don't like Aaron as a vocalits you'll hate this. This is nothing like Underoath so don't be suprised.

The Almost's debut full-length effort is as bittersweet as they come. Ex-Underoath drummer and clean vocalist Aaron Gillespie manages to craft a brookable rock album, but not much else. While he can sing unsurprisingly very well and is instrumentally talented, Gillespie's also an underwhelming composer to boot. Southern Weather basically sounds like him attempting to mostly copy other people. Without Spencer Chamberlain's fierce screams, Aaron is kind of boring.

A relatively palatable album, with some undeniably well-constructed, good songs, but the undeniably Christian message behind the music leaves any outwardly atheistic or agnostic person (such as myself) feeling a little isolated.
