I used to be a huge Lamb of God fan, but this always felt really incoherent and stiff to me, especially drum-wise.

Love the relentlessness, dissimilarity, and death metal touch. Randy`s vocals are absolutely raw here, Had he not changed, he`d be out of a voice today haha. Pretty enjoyable throughout but the best tracks are: "Black Label", "In the Absence of the Sacred", and "Letter to the Unborn".

,,New American Gospel'' displays huge amount of ambition and possibilities, but in the end it's poorly produced and poorly performed release...actually it kind of reminds me Converge's debut...The biggest problem of this album is it's lenght, while songs like ,,In the absence of the Sacred'', ,,Black Label'' or ,,Terror and Hubris in the house of Frank Pollard'' can keep me interested. listening to the same bland, safe and uninspired mixture of Metalcore, thrash metal and black metal with groove metal elements sneaking in once in a while, for 55 minutes just bores me to death, I can't imagine ever wanting to go back to this release, while it doesn't strike me as necessarily bad (Mostly) while listening to it..I just can't say anything good about it...Yeah off course I have enjoyed riff here and there, and I would've really enjoyed the drumming if it wasn't so atrociously mixed and produced (It's like when you have set of cans in your garage and one kick drum and you half-decently mix that kick drum and just forget about the rest)...and yeah I think I would've enjoyed the songwriting and the structures too, but it's so dragging most of the time.rFinisher: Blythe sounds insane on this record, I didn't know he could ever sound this bad, it's like listening to some trve cvlt guy screaming through sh!tty speaker.

I'll be honest...I love Lamb of God, but their debut under that name is a musical abortion. The production is terrible, the music is boring, and the vocals are absolutely terrible. I can't believe that Blythe sang on this album as his vocal style changes drastically between this and As the Palaces Burn. The only song that might be worth checking out is Black Label.
