It's a beautiful mash of free jazz, electronic music and some hip hop, combined to great effect in that signature FlyLo style.

As a huge jazz and hip hop fan this album really is a gift, I love how there are straight up amazing jazz (fusion) tracks between fantastic pieces of hip hop and electronic music. The jazz sections are Bitches Brew quality, sounding absolutely amazing. The album is so diverse and packed with fantastic ideas, yet each track flows into each other and continues the narrative about mortality. You can call this an album of interludes, but you wouldn't be saying that if you actually enjoyed fusion/free jazz. Also all pieces are so cohesive with each other that to treat them out of the context of each other, claiming them to be pointless, is just plain wrong. Simply the best modern jazz, hip hop and electronic album of the decade

On it's own, some of the songs aren't superb.. but that's not what FlyLo album are about. Listened to in full, its a crazy trip that surpasses any of his previous work. Left me wondering, "how the fuck could he ever top this"

I dig it more than the latest, but again it has this sketchy nature, attached to the experimentation, that doesn't help me to pass the fact of being music for musicians and samplers. Whenever you start to get in some tune, the song ends or changes abruptly, therefore I find hard to get the relevance of it, other than that. The vibes and texture work are often amazing.

Still one of my favorite albums of the decade by THE trailblazer. I'm pretty sure it had an influence on TPAB (Kendrick apparently wanted to keep "Never Catch Me" for himself). It fuses da wonky, nu-jazz, and hip-hop without ever letting any of these genres take the lead for too long. It's clearly one of the most challenging records in an already challenging discography, but the way the tracks flow into each other makes for a super engaging listen. It's weird as fuck, and this weirdness is what established Ellison as one of the most influential musicians of the past decade. Listening to this high at Santa Monica was a near-death experience.

It's quite impossible to really describe the complexity of Flying Lotus's work. I've been listening to "You're Dead!" since its launch in 2014 and i never get tired of this abysmal work. Everything that goes from Jazz, Blues, Hip-Hop and even Alternative Rock turns gold in the hand of one of the greatest and best artists of our generation. Superb.

Beautiful, thought provoking, with channeling the underground-meets-mainstream mantra of Lateralus. Oh wait I'm describing the album art. Sorry. This is an amazing sonic journey of an album, with great features (even Lotus's fictional persona Captain Murphy) that's only flaw is that the songs don't hold up when separated from the bigger picture, or at least from his name. Don't make the mistake I made and accidentally have a song from this come up on shuffle, I was really biased from my fist spin and would probably be giving this a strong 4.5 if I didn't relisten.

It's as if some diabolical fiend took the soothing sounds of experimentalism, masturbated with this aspect, and also prioritized the tenaciously weird, yet very charismatic artwork. Electronic music producer Flying Lotus seems to have his sights set on transcending the fabric of space of time in regards to You're Dead!, with charming guest contributions by the riveting likes of Kendrick Lamar, Thundercat, and Captain Murphy to boot. Dare I say that this 38-minute album transforms itself from ingenious work to a black hole of unnerving invincibility.

Flying Lotus, also known as Flylo, has truly made a name for himself in the past eight years. His work, being of the experimental electronic and jazz fusion genres, have garnered a large amount of critical acclaim. In terms of the quality we all expect from him, he delivers once again on You're Dead! The production on this album is stunning, making use of so many different instruments and styles. For instance, on "Tesla", he makes use of very skilled bass, mixing it with xylophone and piano to create a great jazz fusion track. On "Cold Dead", the use of trumpet and electric guitar is seen along with piano. Elsewhere, we find very ethereal and euphoric tracks like "Coronus, The Terminator", "The Boys Who Died In Their Sleep", and "Obligatory Cadence" make this release as fun to listen to as it is ambitious. All I know is, if I'm really dead, at least I've got You're Dead!
