I love technical death metal just so long as the technical doesn’t overpower the death. This is one of those rare bands that manages to straddle the line between the two elements without losing track of either. My favorite thing about this album has to be the bass playing. It’s all over the music and is mixed right up front. Some might find that a bit overbearing, but it’s right where it should be.

After releasing what is to me a top 5 album of the 2010s, Beyond Creation choose what I consider to be absolutely the wrong direction. I was hoping for more of the Atheist like crazy Tech-death infused with mad amounts of neoclassical melodism and shredding. However they instead chose to hone their melodic side, and leave the more brutal deathy side of their music for a stronger focus on focused jazzy compositions. Still good, but nowhere near The Aura.

Technical death metal has recently become a convoluted genre due in part to the number of bands in the scene with similar sounds as well as to the somewhat monotonous music these bands play. I?m excited to say that the next three bands on this list show that it is possible for modern tech death to break out of the mold of excessive technicality just for the sake of technicality. Beyond creation did so by harkening back to the technical releases of old with a superb production, a jazzy feel, and the best bass performance of the year. Some of the songs start to blend together towards the end, but as soon as track nine, Theatrical Delirium, rolls around with its jazz like guitar performance you know you?ve experienced a pretty awesome album. The bass performance in the title track alone puts this on the map. Best songs: Earthborn Evolution, Theatrical Delirium, and Elusive Reverence.

The album's really good, but it doesn't seem to be quite as impactful as The Aura. It also lacks that song to end all songs like The Deported.

Yeah, the vocals aren't the greatest (they're not bad by any means, but they aren't great either), and the bassist/the production of the bass can get a tiny bit annoying at points, but these guys still remain one of the only tech death bands that I feel can actually write a coherent song. There's a huge amount of talent between all the members, and the riffs are spectacular.
