I came here specifically to register severe dislike for this album, especially that
annoying piece of tripe they constantly play on the radio around here, Stay With Me. Its
overdone, gospel-chorus-style refrain and whiny lyrics are enough to ruin any album, and
the rest of what this one has to offer are nowhere near enough to save it - in fact, it's
all a bunch of the same.

Ok, so this was the decade's 14th highest-selling album. Why? Smith sings very well. That's it. As described by Smith himself, it's the diary of a lonely 21-year-old, and you've got all the lyrical matter figured out with this sentence. The arrangements are often too sparse for the songs to be enjoyable. When there's a slightly cool instrumental, Smith goes into drama class and sounds cheesy despite the evident attempt at sounding melodramatic.

Sam smith was born on May 19, 1992. He is an English singer and was starting his fame in 2012 when his first single ?Latch? which was placed 11th in the UK song chart. Also his song ?La La La? earned him his first #1 single. Lastly, he was nominated for 2014 BRIT Critics' Choice Award and the BBC's Sound of 2014 poll and won both. I would say he is pretty popular.rSmith's album In The Lonely Hour is his most popular album. It was released on the 26th of May in 2014 by Capitol Records.The album is based on pop and soul. His most popular hit singles are ?Lay Me Down?, ?Money on my Mind?, ?Stay With Me?, and ?I?m Not The Only One?. Most of his songs are about him being heartbroken and the lack of love as a 21-year-old but now 23.rAll of his songs had some sort of sadness and upbeat parts. Also, most of his songs repeated the word ?Lonely?. Actually his song titles are short because he wants to show he was neglected and vulnerable. The album is named In The Lonely Hour for a reason.rSome of his songs like ?The Lonely Hour? and ?Leave Your Lover? are not the best when compared to ?Money on My Mind? or ?Stay With Me?.This generation is more into dancing upbeat rather than pure sadness. According to a survey much more people love happy and cheerful songs, not sad songs. Also in his album picture he is in a dark room by himself looking sad to show he is sad for once and for all.

The easiest way to describe In the Lonely Hour would have to be: "As depressing as I am, baby, I still know how to make you smile." Sam Smith has the potential to become an above-average songwriter (the opener of this debut should you tell that much), though he shouldn't have to restrict himself to only ballad-type songs a la John Legend. 30 minutes were wasted on the product, which could've been used to plot world domination.
