The first time I heard Thorns I was in loss for words. The sound, the song structures, the energy in this album was and still is something I haven't heard since. The combination of black, the harshness of industrial and the structure of progressive metal stroke like a sledgehammer to my musical nerve and still does.

An industrial take on Norwegian black metal. This album is an absolute gem and criminally under rated.

Blistering, uncompromising, audacious debut that served as a culmination of their brief studio career. Whereas most other black metal bands at the time perceived scale as a tool to create sterilised epic narratives out of chunky arrangements or folkloric sound, Thorns rather went for an overwhelming, noisy, often shrill experience.

Started off huge, however went more and more industrial, which I'm not a fan of. Snorre's riffs are obviously huge, and have a monumental position in Black Metal history. Had he refrained from all the industrial interludes, this would rank way higher imo.

Their unique guitar tone and approach to rhythm were an undeniable influence on black metal--latter-era Mayhem and Satyricon to be specific. Snorre basically infected every band he touched, and not in a negative way.

Thorns executed exactly what they set out to do with this album; terrify the listener. Hell is in fact incarnate, and it resides within the tortured riffs and industrial rhythms of Thorn's only solo LP. Its not a comfortable listen, but then again its not supposed to be. This album creeps you out, whether you or not you truly enjoyed it.

Interesting and rather deep lyrics. The music is best described as a hodge podge of industrial music with somewhat black metal vocals at times.
