2.5 average | Brandon Scott EMERITUS | July 2nd 14 | Now that we know WIITR has a pair of celestits, maybe they can grow a pair of celesticals for their next album?

0.0 | CaptainDooRight | July 2nd 14 | now that I've given this a proper listen there's plenty of dynamics here and lol to those rwho don't even know what dynamics mean and those who don't think dynamics are commonly rpresent in ambient music. yes, ambient music has climaxes too you label freaks

2.0 poor | DarkNoctus | July 2nd 14 | the first and last tracks are a really great display of re-using their ideas in a constructive way but the middle tracks really lose me. not keen on the more 'bleep bloop' synths they use and they more often take me out of the experience than pull me in and none of the experimentation in the middle 3 tracks pay off in a significant way. it's okay, just rather average as far as ambient goes. will definitely re-visit the first and last tracks though. 3.0 good | Robert Garland STAFF | June 19th 14 | No real build up on a stereotypical display of music. It might be new for them, but it's far
from fresh. Take it as you will.

2.5 average | Trey STAFF | June 19th 14 | Reminds me of a more focused (and slightly more orchestral) version of Aphex Twin's 'Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2' -- hey Burzum, Emperor, Samael, etc this is how it should be done.

3.5 great | Bedex | June 29th 22 | Much like Blood Incantation's Timewave Zero I think this took way too much heat just out of being drastically different from the rest of the band's discography, whereas had it been released in a vacuum the average would be a touch higher. Thus I may be rating a touch higher myself with this. This is a brilliantly crafted, very dynamic synth ambient voyage (as opposed to soft background ambient). Lots of instrumental changes, lots of different vibes - tho always with a sense of spatial grandeur. This is certainly not a one pad for 40 minutes kind of ambient album. The whole thing is a monolithic experience to be listened to in full, but it's not a perfect one. 1 and 4 are to me the best crafted here wiht the most interest to them and pretty much no real flaws, whilst 3 comes close but is just a tad too much organ church sounding for too long for me. 2 is fine, but I don't know that I like so much the fuzzy Sunn o))) guitars - they're alright for a while, but not my first choice. Alas 6, reuses them, but more importantly concludes this beforehand very well constructed journey very badly. It kinda fades out midtrack, then revives itself, only to one more time end in much too protracted a way. Feels like this deserved a better ending. Still, 3.6

3.5 great | ExoskeletalJunction | February 14th 22 | 9th February, 2022: Wolves in the Throne Room - Celestite (dark ambient/progressive
electronic, 2014)
Okay, it’s probably their worst album, but you’ve got to give Wolves credit for how competent
this is, given they’d never really even hinted at a sound like this before. It’s not like so
many of the modern atmospheric black metal bands, who owe an awful lot to Klaus Schulze and
Tangerine Dream in their synth wandering - WITTR had always struck me as more earthly and
grounded, about nature not space, and this is a really strong change of aesthetic for them. I
particularly enjoy the occasional bursts of guitars and darkness, reminding everyone who they
really are, but the ambience is solid regardless. It does what it’s meant to do, and it makes
for excellent nighttime reading music.

3.6 great | Erwann S. STAFF | March 13th 19 | Not as boring as everyone claims it is. Not perfect, but really nice dark/space ambient record with a progressive electronic touch.

3.0 good | zaruyache | September 23rd 16 | The individual tracks are nice, but they don't seem very cohesive when it comes to the compiling of this album. This makes sense since each track is basically just a reinvention and expansion of the synth, keyboard, and guitar melodies from Celestial Lineage and not wholly new works themselves. Because each track comes from a different origin they all seem fairly different, and this is what makes them not seem very cohesive together. If certain ideas from certain tracks had been fleshed out into truly their own pieces not simply based on old CL ideas, then Celestite might have been more functional as a standalone ambient record. As-is, though, it's still alright--just nothing amazing because nothing really feels completed. It's just the same melodies from CL expanded enough to justify calling them each their own respective new tracks. The original melodies were of WitTR quality, though, so even reinvented the product is at least aesthetically pleasing, if only just that.

3.0 good | i want to mort. | July 9th 14 | celestite meanders in the middle of nowhere for its whole running time, mostly resulting an
exhausting and boring album, but the somewhat intriguing use of synths might take you to
another dimension in certain circumstances (which is obviously what wittr is going for with
this). definitely not an every-day listen nor the best the band could offer but it's decent
for what it is
