A new take on their first two albums and every bit as good. Considering The Shins is one of the best pure Indie bands around, this is a crucial 3rd LP that adds so much to their repertoire.

A new fresh poppy direction for the Shins. The songs that are awesome are just plain awesome, and I personally think the Shins should've done more of those songs; think "Australia", "Sleeping Lessons", "Phantom Limb", "Turn On Me". Basically the singles. the other songs are too bland except for "Sea Legs" and "Girl Sailor".

I really like these guys, and frankly I like that they have a consistent sound. It's much different and very soothing, and somewhat nostalgic. Its called a "style." And really, it gets annoying when bands completely turn upside down and go in a different direction. i.e. Green Day - American Idiot, or System of a Down - Hypnotize/Mezmerize. Ugh. Keep on keepin on guys

I have given this album a couple of listens because of all the positive reviews the Shins get, but honestly it seems really average to me. The songs just really didn't grab me at all in any way. The lyrics were amusing and interesting in places, but that's about all this album has going for it IMHO.
