Handily destroys Praparat and any of the Year of Boris trilogy. A distinctively "Boris" sound permeates the album, their heavy rock sound refined to a pinpoint and drenched in shoegazey effects and delightful passages of crushing sludge and ethereal post rock crescendos in equal measure. Shades of all the different sounds of the band make an appearance, and the album is all the more dynamic and pleasing for it. Trails only behind Holy Vacants for album of 2014 easily at this point in time.

An interesting mixture of dissonant guitars and almost pop sounding vocals make this album truly unique. The first track sees the vocals implementing an abundance of melody (as its name would imply), but the band sadly goes away from this on the rest of the album. Songs approaching 20 minutes are far too lengthy for my liking, however that doesn't hinder the album as a whole too much. Variety is really the key here; too many bands like this release albums where the songs pretty much all sound the same. Boris escapes this by effectively using tempo shifts from song to song.

Boris does a little bit of everything at once, and comes across a tad too scatterbrained and indecisive. Still, some good tunes on here, although this is definitely best enjoyed separately rather than as a whole.

A pair of ears heavily exposed to the abundant production of Boris music will find it hard to deny that the band has not gone through the motions in Noise. Despite being derivative (think of what the band tried from Pink up to Attention Please, with the addition of Heavy Rocks and Boris At Last -Feedbacker-), the new songs sound fresh every time they are reproduced.

Boris' most criminally underrated album, absolutely beautiful, versatile yet coherent, strange and ethereal yet strangely accessible, and as always with Boris, it's a departure but still identifiable as them. I love the hell out of this one. 5.5/5 because there's a kitty cat on the cover.

It's Boris, basically: most of this is made up of heavy riffs complemented with psychy leads that, along with the mostly clean vocal delivery, gives the whole lot its poppy vibe - and pop sludge is always a win. When the tempo slows, the band looms either toward Flood or Feedbacker without having the same emotional apex, even though "Angel" is almost there - gotta say it's quite a difficult task innit. This is - most probably - their best post-2000s work.
