3.7 great | Necrotica | July 24th 14 | But will there be dragons involved? More developments on this story when we come back

3.1 good | Trey STAFF | July 21st 14 | The riffs are definitely thrashier than the previous albums and the song tempos/styles/whatever are more diverse. It's still definitely Dragonforce (With a weaker vocalist these days), though.

5.0 classic | Somewhereintime | July 24th 14 | freaking great album, three hammers, the sun is dead, symphony of the night and the game are amazing tracks, no real weak song on the album for me, perhaps it could even be better with bonus tracks

3.0 good | deadrisingx1 | August 15th 14 | It's missing something, I can feel it.

3.5 great | Poet | July 27th 14 | So I guess a Thrash/Melo-Death/Prog with a sweet power metal vocalist Dragonforce is kinda rcool. rPlus dem Bass solos

3.5 great | tellah | December 2nd 16 | A surprisingly great album from everyone's favourite fretboard fappers. The signature cheesiness
and overwhelming instrumental performances are still abundant here. While not anything drastically
different from the rest of their catalog, Maximum Overload sees DragonForce bringing
elements of melodic death metal and thrash metal into their power metal mix. This gives the album
the much-needed variety that the others tend to lack. Couple that with more concise songs and Marc
Hudson's quality vocal performance, and you have the best album of DragonForce's polarizing
career.

3.0 good | zaruyache | November 14th 15 | They're moving in the right direction, definitely. There are some really great moments here, contrasted with a lot of super cheesy or just generally 'meh' stuff. If they could learn to cut the fat they could potentially be power metal contenders.

3.0 good | BRAman22 | August 22nd 14 | Maximum Overload houses both some very fast and technical playing, along with a few great catchy hooks. However, DragonForce goes all in on the catchy hooks, seeing many of them miss their intended mark, creating an overall cheesy album with a couple of highlights.

4.0 excellent | OClock | August 16th 14 | From the very first playthrough, one can hear that a lot of work has been put into this album. Every instrument, every note has it's place, there is an abundance of brilliant riffs, tasty melodies and great solos. The vocalist Marc Hudson is in his best form here, having a lighter voice, he is displaying a great vocal range - from the lower notes to the soaring highs. The bass, the keyboards and the drumming are also excellent. Seems like each band member is pushing himself on this record. The album overall is consistent with very little, if any, really unenjoyable moments. Also worth mentioning, Dragonforce made a right move in choosing to record with Jens Bogren, as the quality of the production is definitely higher than on their previous material.

4.5 superb | leycec | August 14th 14 | Substantially improved over prior outings. If you were ever on the fence about DragonForce (so, basically everyone?), the Limited Edition of "Maximum Overload" is the only place to start. And stop, really. Their back catalogue is obviously sense-obliviating blissless trash. Thankfully, that no longer matters. For at least one glorious cheese fest, these inveterate British pop-metallers _finally_ rise above masturbatory joke status and release an appallingly fun, mildly tasteful slice of happy-go-lucky speed thrash. With a ridiculous 6 bonus tracks (!), the Limited Edition serves up nearly 77 minutes of all the DragonForce you can stomache and will probably ever need. Go, go speed dragon!

3.0 good | Alex Newton | August 8th 14 | I miss ZP and his potty mouth. I miss long songs with like five harmonized solo sections. I miss guitar delay-ridden epic intros. I miss the things that made Dragonforce...Dragonforce. Repetitive and ridiculous, but different than any other band out there. And that was worth coming back for every now and then.
