I'm here to confirm Jac's placement of this album at the top of the riff scale. A real treat of an album not only for black metal fanatics, but metalheads in general. Excellent atmosphere and hard riffs left and right highlighted by a touch of folk influence.

This is great blackened thrash metal with more folk influence to it but it still felt like the band underachieved when it could have been a lot better.

It's hard for me to place Blood Fire Death. I know it's great, but it's one that has never really done a whole lot for me personally. Granted, I love "A Fine Day to Die" which I consider to be one of the best black metal songs of all time. A lot of the songs devolve into a bad kind of chaos where the riffs become lost in white noise and the overpowering drums. Despite this, there are tons of strong moments full of groove and the record deserves no less than a 3.5.

This is one very well considered album by an artist, who knows what he wants to achieve. Horse riding intro will take you right into the battle, which begins by "Fine Day to Die" epos, then you come through black violence of thrashing war machine in the next songs and album ends by majestic title track and typical outro. Every song could stand alone, but together it creates real amazing and spine-chilling work of art.

I love Bathory and this is probably their best release. A brutal and majestic sound that furiously displays that Bathory atmosphere that everybody with half a brain knows of perfectly containing two of the best black metal songs ever written.

From start to finish, Blood Fire Death takes you on a ride. A brutal ride filled with, well, blood, fire and death. The music is dark and pummeling, as are the vocals. The atmosphere is naturally dark, and the ambience present on a few of the tracks is a nice. Quorothon plays all of the instruments on the album, as well as the vocals, and does so very well. The only thing wrong with this album is that Bathory set the standard so damn high, it's hard to come across another great album. Classic in the black metal scene, and superb overall in the metal world.
