| 3.7 great | Voivod STAFF | June 3rd 14 | Mayhem go through the motions of intelligent black metal, yet their craft remains unmatched.

| 4.0 excellent | SkapalPes | July 18th 14 | Second best Mayhem album after... guess which? "Ordo ad Chao" of course! It was probably really impossible to go further (in music), so I can understand Blasphemer`s decision to leave. rTeloch, new guitarist and composer, had extremely hard job to replace him. I think he did excellent and I enjoy his futuristic (Voivod-like?) style. Attila and Hellhammer are both absolutely exceptional artists and with help of firm Necrobutcher they all created one extra strong LP with perfect production, too. They are further developing their original avantgarde and psychedelic black metal style, which is very technical and brutal at the same time, furiously speeding in one moment and desperately crawling in another. Several pauses in music flow can make a man nervous, but maybe that`s just what they wanted... rSo this is great comeback after 7 years and it is said they`re in best concert shape in history, really sad that I missed them.

| 3.0 good | BRAman22 | June 16th 14 | This would be a lot easier to enjoy if the production was better. As it is, it is somewhat difficult to hear all of the intricacies happening in the music, which simply makes it more difficult to appreciate.

| 4.0 excellent | mkamrass | June 12th 14 | Judging by the artwork and concept of the album, which I love, I was really looking for forward to this album and it did not disappoint upon finally hearing it. Mayhem has always had their own sound that no other black metal band can really come close to imitating and this album has definitely pushed that unique sound further. Every band member has shining moments on the album but they all still work together to produce an excellent album as a whole. One little note is that this is definitely a cleaner mayhem sound-wise.

| 3.0 good | Eggnog Addict | October 18th 21 | a middling meander between chimera and their blogs, neither great nor entirely worthless

| 3.5 great | GamamJ | May 7th 20 | Mayhem continue their foray in progressive avant-garde BM, and they do it damn well! The follow up to Chao sounds quite similar to it, even with the lack of Blasphemer, but with a much better mix.

| 4.0 excellent | ManiacBlasphemer | September 26th 19 | Blasphemer's departure from the band made myself and probably many others wonder if the band will become just a live outfit or call it quits for good. Certainly, the 7 years wait pretty much convinced a lot of people that these guys have had enough with studio recordings and would become a live act only. It was a surprise when they announced the release of this record. Listening to it a few times, I wondered whether Blasphemer was really the main songwriter on Ordo ad Chao, as this one picks up where that one left, albeit with slight modifications. The production is better, much less murky, but the overall feeling of the songs is similar with those in the previous album. The very dissonant, penetrating riffs, the tensed atmosphere that won't let go and the clever use of silence to further underline the chaos present on this record. First 5 tracks are flawless, the second part is a bit weaker, but the album ends in a high note with Posthuman and Aion Suntalia. Not a classic like their debut, and slightly inferior to their offering (due to its mid section) but this is a must have for any Mayhem fan, and BM fan. The band maintains the tradition of never repeating the same album.

| 4.0 excellent | Risodo | April 29th 18 | "Esoteric Warfare" is the best work of Mayhem since "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas". The only difference is that it seems the band has finally broken their ties with their past history, looking to the future and creating a new identity. The production may seem somewhat amateurish in certain matters, but in a genre like Black Metal, it fits in the final product. It's interesting to see that bands like Mayhem still have firewood to burn inside the music industry.

| 3.2 good | Trey STAFF | June 18th 14 | Grand Declaration of War is the only Mayhem album that I truly enjoy. The vocals are just way too much on most of the other albums. Having said that, the vocals are tolerable on this and the music is pretty good... but it's just standard stuff.

| 5.0 classic | panagiotis | March 26th 14 | I am not very objective you see. I am sure it is going to be a 5. At last the best black metal band ever, also the pioneers of 2nd wave by the way, is coming back. Judging from Psywar single it will kick ass.
