This album is pure consistency combined with just enough experimentation to make every song somewhat new and exciting. Chevelle are again progressing, releasing another great album if not their best yet.

With La Gargola Chevelle haven't sounded this properly rejuvenated since Vena
Sera. To be somewhat fair, Sci-Fi Crimes and Hats Off To The Bull aren't
terrible records, but the lack of personality and variation between songs really dragged
down those listening experiences. The songs on La Gargola consist of slight
variations between the songs that allows the record to breathe and flow properly.
Even the worst song on the album "One Ocean" has a more unique atmosphere than most of
the stuff on their previous two albums. Finally! Chevelle sound like they give a damn
again. Finally progressing their sound ever so slightly and putting some urgency in these
performances.

There's an energy and attitude that hasn't been present since Wonder What's Next. The whole band sounds rejuvenated. La Gargola is their best album since Wonder What's Next - and might even be the best album in the band's entire catalogue.

Yeah, it's an alt-metal band, with alt-metal songs that bring out the groove. Overall a consistent album that sometimes knows how to be catchy ("Gunman" is big headbang moment).

Idk, i keep trying but i absolutely cannot get into this album. I?ll say it and say it again, Chevelle is at their
strongest when they focus on melody and have an undercurrent of aggression. When the heavier stuff is pushed
to the front, it comes off as incredibly unimpressive to me. The sort of by-the-numbers hard rock riffs get a bit
mind-numbing after a bit. Idk. And the Tool wannabe Take Out The Gunman is a bit too shameless for my liking.
Chevelle is one of my favorite bands, and i cannot for the life of me see why this album is their most well
regarded

A rather poor effort that can be summed up in one word: formulaic. Every single song with very few exceptions relies on a heavy, headache inducing riff and half sung, half shouted vocals that overall create a bland and lifeless package that's not heavy enough to stack up with good metal and not light enough to stack up with good alternative. The highest points are "Take Out the Gunman" which is a catchy jam with a very enjoyable chorus and "One Ocean" where the band actually dials it to deliver an interesting sounding ballad. Everything else though, is sorely lacking.

La Gargola is easily Chevelle's best album since Wonder What's Next, featuring some of the most progressive and angriest material the band has ever written. Sure to be a pleaser for many Chevelle fans, and the album to bring Chevelle back into the limelight. I mean, it kind of already has, as it peaked at #3 on the Top 200, so that's a very good sign.

There are a couple of decent songs on this album but most is just clich?d filler. The
production is boring and by the numbers. Muffled vocals, stand out lead guitar, choppy
rhythm, fat bass. The album has nothing in the way of originality. I didn't listen to the
last two songs because I was too bored with the album. Yes there are some nice riffs and
decent musicianship and 'take out the gunman' is quite good but in the end it sounded like
badly watered down tool to me.
