DragonForce, eat your hearts out.
These guys truly know how to rock the synths, incorporating a special sound module called the Sid Station. The Sid Station is based off of the SID synthesizer chip used in the Commodore 64 computer. What all this means is that Machinae Supremacy can provide the videogame-ish sound that DragonForce themselves have become known for.
MaSu's talent, however, does not end there. Robert Stjarnstrom has a unique voice (at least to me), that is different from the high-pitched power metal vocalists that I've heard in DragonForce and Dream Evil. Quite possibly my favorite member of the band, Jonas Rorling the lead guitarist, shows he can write amazing riffs and solos on tracks like 'Insidious' and 'Player One', sometimes rivaling the speed and sound of Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce. Andreas, Johan, and Tomas, on keyboards, bass, and drums, respectively, while are talented, do not showcase their skills much in this album.
Overall, this is an essential power metal album for those who like the genre.
Recommended Tracks: Insidious, Dreadnaught, Flagcarrier, Player One, Deus Ex Machinae... Never mind, just get the entire album.
NOTE: There being only 2,000 copies of this album made, there isn't much of a chance you'll find this in stores, but you can download the first 14 songs off of MaSu's Last.FM page, and the 15th song off of their official website, www.machinaesupremacy.com
