Much more than a mere display of technical skill, Archspire's latest album features a pretty interesting set of songs with unorthodox musical structures and unpredictable vocal dynamics. Like its predecessor, "The Collective Lucid" is an album for a very specific niche and needs time to be fully appreciated.

Solid technically, but in the (not even so with the album being just over 30 minutes) long run boring. As usual with modern tech-death, the band is sweeping and using rhythmical wankery all over the place without realizing there is such a concept as actually being musical. Too bad, as I really enjoyed their debut which felt more lively. The peoduction here sterilises absolutely everything as well.

Decent enough by tech death metal standards but I feel like some of these riffs and solos are forced in rather than flowing with the rest of the instrumentation in a natural way. It's mostly impressive musicianship that's on display here, with vocals a little too hesitant but still relevant for the most part. The first half of the album seems better written than the latter half.
