Estradasphere's final record is also their best. Unlike the band's previous albums, Palace of Mirrors is an entirely instrumental affair. Thus, the band's stunning musicianship is on full display, and this is a good thing. Furthermore, the production is the best of any of their albums. Finally, the metal parts sound good! With Palace of Mirrors, Estradasphere has also matched their genre defying sound(s) with atmosphere. While the album covers a multitudinous number of genres (jazz, metal, orchestral, industrial, etc.), like all of their releases, each piece works in conjunction with the others. The whole thing feels like the score for a film. It drags slightly towards the end, but nonetheless Palace of Mirrors is a major triumph.

Bands or just any solo artist who have the absolute gall to flabbergast the public through spanning a myriad of styles at random are my cup of tea; my sentiment remains intact especially for the acts that utilize this as their forte, while not sacrificing the purity of lucid songwriting choices in the process. Estradasphere on their fifth studio recording Palace of Mirrors are adept at toying with various genres, and they can certainly push actual compositions out of harm's way for this album's entirety.

This group, in my mind, summarizes the word "eclectic" better than many, MANY bands are capable of. This is one of the most versatile bands in my library, incorporating musical themes from a brilliant array of facets; classical, to almost polka, to surf rock, to heavy rock, to ambient, to post-rock. It's difficult to put a pin on Estradasphere because they're so many places at once.

I thought I'd had my fill of faux-chaotic bands that combine multiple genres at random. We all had Mr. Bungle for long enough thankyouverymuch. But I guess I was wrong. Even though I swore never to listen to bands who switched between surf rock and thrash metal at the drop of a dime ever again, I am willing to relinquish my vows for this.
