1.5 very poor | EasterInTheBatcave | December 19th 15 | A wildly inconsistent listen, which is unsurprising considering its production. Tired of Swano's progressive predilections-- which had culminated in the band's previous record, metal classic Crimson-- the rest of Edge of Sanity demanded a return to their traditional death metal roots. Unable to agree, the two sides wrote half the record each and, after it was released, Swano left the band.

3.0 good | CrazyFool84 | February 22nd 11 | Infernal serves as the beginning of the end of Edge of Sanity as a band, ushering in the era of solo-Swano recordings and eventually the retiring of the band’s name altogether. Apparently marred by creative differences between frontman Dan Swano and guitarist Andreas Axelsson, the tracks sort of reflect that environment, adding up for one of the more inconsistent recordings since the bands inception. Though this is still an Edge of Sanity recording – and really not that shabby of one when all is said and done – there is that uneasy feeling that something is not quite right; it’s unfortunate that this atmosphere was translated onto what can pretty much be considered as the “bands” final recording, though in terms of the bands overall progression, is still a pretty interesting listen.

2.0 poor | I was living in constant fear of someone neg bombing all my reviews cause I know how many detest me | December 25th 21 | It's hard to see this album as anything but an identity crisis, an inevitable result of creative tensions between Swano and the rest of the band. It's not truly bad, indeed it has some moments, although fewer and further between than previous releases. But the main issue is how haphazard, uneven and disjointed it feels, with only glimpses of Edge of Sanity's trademark semi-proggy writing sandwiched between less inspired death n roll and melodeath offerings.

0.0 | Lambda | October 30th 13 | After Crimson, the rest of Edge of Sanity confronted Swano and had an ultimatum of sorts: they were tired of the progressive stuff, and wanted to get back to their roots. It was out of this dispute that Infernal was born. Unfortunately, the album is wildly inconsistent, and you can tell from listening that it is the product of a band divided. Indeed, the only common thread between the songs here is drummer Benny Larssen, who played on all eleven of them. Swano penned and performed five, and the rest of the band, with guitarist/vocalist Andreas Axelsson taking the lead, wrote the other six. Though there are some decent songs on here- namely "Hell Is Where the Heart Is," "Helter Skelter," and "15:36"- Infernal remains an extremely uneven, and almost uncomfortable, listen. 2.6
