Nice varied beat selection with a west coast flavor on top of trap beats. I feel like Q didnt play it safe which i
like. That His and Her Fiend track is crazy too. With that chopped and screwed beat with Q's altered demon
voice and sza singing till the end. Really some unique sounding stuff that reminds me of some old outkast..
I feel like a lot will hate on this album initially.. but give it time and i feel like people will realize how good this
project is.

These are some great beats; percussive and musical, almost theatrical. Hooks are often out of sync with beats (a pet peeve of mine), and lyrical content is low (how many times can you describe getting laid on one album?) There's potential, but immaturity is abound. The duo of "Los Awesome" and "Collared Greens" is addictive, though.

Another hour-long record from the school boi. He compensates his relatively average lyrics with diverse flows and varied soundscapes that sometimes match his style, sometimes match the featured artist more (2 Chainz, Tyler).

74/100. A very solid, very fun album from the TDE rapper Schoolboy Q. I loved Q's flows on this, as well as the eccentric and often goofy lyrics. Overall I felt like the length took away from the album but I loved the listen regardless.

I was excited to hear one of the Black Hippy's members major label debut album. I wasn't disappointed but it wasn't as genius as good kid, m.A.A.d city. It has some clever lyrics and sick beats. He definitely stepped up his sound to a more lyrical hip hop sound while keeping the gangster theme. While the beats were sick they weren't really “gangster”. But the guest appearance line-up was great. Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, Jay Rock, and Raekwon. But I really didn't dig Studio it has to be one of the worst rap songs of those millennium. Overall, this album is a amazing debut album.

Oxymoron contains some great moments, but has more spots of cheesiness than I would like to hear. ScHoolboy Q is kind of giving the "dad" feel with his music already. Hell of a Night sounds kind of like how a middle-aged person would interpret The Weeknd. Fuck L.A. sounds needlessly aggressive, and Yay Yay is a pretty awful closer, despite the fact that this is a gangster rap LP. Aside from that, this is a solid album. Songs like Los Awesome, Blind Threats, Break the Bank, and Groovelin Pt. 2 deserve the respect (imho) of Kendrick upon the release of good kid maad city. Album isn't too weighed down with features. All in all, despite a few blunders, Oxymoron gives me hope for hip hop's future.
