Dir en grey's best album. Period.
Only "REPETITION OF HATRED" is remotely bad, and I still listen to it.

(8/28/18): If Withering to death. was a seminal moment in the Dir En Grey history books, then the next record would be an even bigger turning point for them. Studio album #6, aka The Marrow of a Bone, took the heaviest moments of the preceding release and intensified them. Almost from start to finish, this LP was Diru at their most ferocious; and furthermore, this was the quintet mid-period at their least overtly nu-metal yet. Often I hesitated to deem this one of the best things the band did, but I never once stopped myself from calling it one of my favorite DEG offerings. Revisiting tracks such as "The Pledge," "Repetition of Hatred," and the ever quotable "Agitated Screams of Maggots" today still satisfy the taint. Also, ONE DAY KYO WILL FUCK YOUR PARENTS!! ...That's that.

One hell of a dirty, nasty nu-metal experience. Imo DEG's best from their alt metal/nu-metal era. It sounds so unorganized, gnarly, tortured and full of hatred that it passes the point of being juvenile and edgy, it becomes a genuine disturbing assault
against the world. It's also unintentionally hilarious at times, due to Kyo's terrible Engrish pronunciation (I don't think he's even trying at this point), with many misheard lyrics like "FUCK IT'S AN OWL" or "AC/DC FUCK YOU". Musical equivalent of
black comedy.

The Pledge is my favorite song right now. Get some TOOL meets Deftones vibes from it. This album is rsomething truly special. Idk why this isn?t regarded as highly as their later work, this is one of the most tight, rinfectious metal albums i?ve heard in a loooong time. Dir En Grey is unexpectedly becoming my favorite band.

The Marrow Of A Bone is easily the most controversial album Dir En Grey has released yet, and it's easy to see why. It's the most Westernised, and heavily influenced by modern metal acts that don't exactly recieve the same acclaim Dir En Grey recieves. But the band play this Western music with a passion that is commonly unheard of in the genre. This album is indeed a step back from Withering To Death, in that almost all of the Japanese influences have disappeared (except for the language of course), but they play the genre better than any of their Western contemporaries. Generic it may be; unpassionate it certainly is not.

Dir en Grey occupy an interesting niche in J-rock, and Marrow of a Bone have pursued the metal/metalcore influences further than ever. The music is more punishing than on any previous release, and lead vocalist Kyo delivers a large pallette of harsh vocal styles, even going so far as to deliberately do it the wrong way to achieve a few seconds of a specific tone. This obsession with heaviness is the album's weak point, and it lacks much of the tact and subtle touches that made the previous album, Withering to Death such a great record. To sum up, not a bad album, but far from being Dir en Grey's best.

Worst Dir en grey album to date. Period. This is the most generic release they have ever done, one can say that Gauze is also generic and I agree, but you can be generic and sound amazing (Gauze) because they used every Visual Kei cliche and turn them into their favor or... you can be generic and total utter-crap (MoaB) where the songs go nowhere and your singer sound like a cat being raped.
And to be clear, I don't want them to wear make up and dresses anymore, they are way past that but I want diversity and that is seriously lacking in their music right now.
These songs are so bad that they make Whitering to Death sound good.
