i love how people are already bashing this. had a band that people on this website consider "good" deathmetal/deathcore released this album it would be at like a 4 and everyone would say it's a great album. Only because it's carnifex is the rating low.

Carnifex must've took a pitchfork, dipped the object in kerosene, and shoved said tool up the asses of our supreme overlords the moment their latest album went underway. Die Without Hope features tighter songwriting and an overall far more consistent sound in comparison to previous releases. Frontman Scott Lewis' gutturals showcase familiarity, while at the same time exploring the areas of newfound gravitas, and the guitar riffage sounds quite brutal, though never too monotonous either. Piano usage also helps this recording out, thereby giving the release somewhat of an atmospheric nature that can rarely be considered phoned in.

Knowing Carnifex by their earlier releases that just aren't my cup of tea (The same problem with Chelsea Grin), I would have predicted that Die Without Hope won't be an exception. And now, I am glad that I was wrong, because this album is a major step forward for a band. It may not reinvent deathcore, but it does reinvent Carnifex.

I guess my true score is a 3.7, a hair above the 3.6 I would have given "Until I Feel Nothing." Carnifex is never going to lose their deathcore aspect, but it's fun to see them experimenting with blacker, deathier sounds.

Aside from the closer, this is by far the most boring Deathcore record I have heard in the last 5+ years. If somebody really thinks this is any good, I would give him the well-meant advice to stop listening to bullshit and to try out really outstanding deathcore CDs instead, like for instance Thy Art Is Murder's "Hate", Whitechapel's selftitled, Fit For An Autopsy's "The Process of Human Extermination" or the last three Impending Doom albums. And no, this is by no means generic Carnifex-hate, I used to enjoy these guys back then and have been following the whole genre since it's formation.

It's brutal as fuck and the black metal influences are cool, as well as the keyboards, but the whole thing still gets repetitive after a while. Still a solid album though and probably their best.

A step forward in the right direction for Carnifex. They capitalized on the strengths of 'Until I Feel Nothing' and produced a kick-ass death metal record with a splash of that deathcore brutality.
