| 5.0 classic | yontar | August 10th 08 | If there was one song on the recent guitar hero release that left me actually wanting to go buy a recording it was prototype's the way it ends. This album blew me away and is one of the few progressive metal albums i have heard in a long time that sounded fresh, tight, and melodic. The standout elements in this album are the vocals, drums, and songwriting (even though everyone in the band is consummate). On a vocal level this is really different and that is a huge part of why i like them so much. It is so nice not to hear the typical power metal style vocals. His vocals are closer to the typical vocals in hard alt. rock or nu-metal and no, he does not suck at what he does (good tone, good lines). The drums are fantastic and the cymbal usage is really nice to hear. The style is sort of similar to hoglan or reinert, very complex yet groovy. Lastly. and most importantly the songwriting is fantastic and the solo phrasing is impeccable. This is one of the few heavy prog. metal bands not afraid to play in major keys which is really nice and somewhat unique because it instantly makes them about ten times more melodic than most of the pack of prog. metal bands nowadays. Overall the album is very well executed and the production is really good for the band being somewhat underground.
The standout tracks are: synthespian, seed, the way it ends, heart machine, and with vision
On a very simple level this band sort of sounds like a mix between sieges even and nevermore if that sounds possible at all . Have a fun time with this one.

| 3.5 great | demjunz | May 6th 12 | It's shocking how unknown these guys are in the metal scene. Definitely a decent sophomore release from Prototype. Only real let down for me is the vocalist. Instrumentally, I can't enough of it.

| 2.0 poor | GnarlyShillelagh | November 29th 09 | Vocalist can sing four notes in two different orders and that's all. Band has potential, but it suffers from having no diversity from song to song. There are a few standout moments on the album, but they last no more than twenty seconds. The band uses the same formula for the rest of the album, and the listener is left bored.

| 0.0 | Berner | February 7th 08 | I thought that this album was great. The vocals were awesome, the guitar work was great, and it never gets dull or sounds forced.
