| 3.0 good | Alabaster Jones | September 15th 17 | This stuff actually isn't half bad. For my money it would've made much more sense for I'm Beside You to be the LP and I'm With You to be the B-sides compilation accompanying it. While it's true that most of these songs play out like a middling By The Way-era track, that's not nearly as bad as it sounds, as the songs from that era were usually wonderful. It's a little winded as well, but the great tracks on this thing, including opener "Strange Man", "Never Is A Long Time", "Pink As Floyd" and "Hanalei" are spaced out enough to give the comp a pretty even feel to it. The strange this about this one is how it was marketed: every song on here was released for free on various platforms, but once Record Store Day 2013 came around, they decided to compile all of these onto a double-LP vinyl that is now completely out of print and sell them for nearly 40 dollars. Never underestimate the cheapskating power of certain record labels.

| 2.5 average | Jared Floryan | June 19th 16 | Mundane and dreck are synonymous with the name of Red Hot Chili Peppers' tenth full-length album, titled I'm With You, as far as my fidgety thesaurus is concerned. Whilst it possessed admittedly neat ideas here and there, any potential that record had was squandered by unimaginative execution and a generally colorless production job handled by everybody's favorite moron Rick Rubin. Multi-instrumentalist and backing singer Josh Klinghoffer is extremely talented, but I also feel that he was severely underutilized; then again, the production values and the fact that he had to live up to John Frusciante's big shoes weren't doing him any favors at the time. Having said that, the California-based funk rock band would later put this out: a double vinyl LP that, as its groan-inducing title indicates, compiles all 17 tracks from the I'm With You Sessions. Unsurprisingly the compilation isn't much different from the finished product in that there are cool composition ideas ruined by either underwhelming craftsmanship or merely unlikable audio quality. The stronger ditties on here like "Long Progression," "Victorian Machinery," "Never Is a Long Time," "Pink As Floyd," and "Hanalei" should've made the official cut if you have to ask. Funky motherfuckers will not be told to go.
