I'm not sure why there's been such a negative reaction on here to this release, unless it's due to animosity towards the Pikes series in general. All in all, this is a pretty successful ambient record, and great for Hallowe'en night. My issues with it are that some of the tracks are awfully short, and the banjo is distracting at times ("Pumpkin Pikes 3," "Pumpkin Pikes 6"). Often, the songs would be more absorbing without it. Still, Pumpkin is by no means awful and, if you're in the mood for some ambient stuff, worth checking out (especially considering it's free!) 3.2

A noisy ambient release featuring eighteen short songs that all sound the same. The banjo from Spinal Clock appears on some of the tracks in a mostly annoying capacity. Ultimately, Pumpkin is mildly enjoyable in small bursts, but repetitive in its entirety.

It's really hard for me to peg an album like Pumpkin, is it just hard for me to
understand? Do I not "get" it? Or is this album just way too strange and a little boring for
almost anybody? Don't get me wrong, there is some great stuff here and Buckethead is able to
create creepy atmospheres on the record at times. This could definitely be a Death Cube K
album if there was less bafflingly weird banjo playing. But there is just too much
derivative filler that keeps me from genuinely enjoying it.

Buckethead releases yet another discombobulated string of noise and weird effects, perhaps even more anemic than Spinal Clock. While it is likely not meant to be taken seriously, Buckethead continues to tarnish his reputation with these heavily rushed and filler-laden pikes. One wishes that he would spend more time focusing on crafting another masterpiece instead of releasing this drivel.
