This album's a tough nut to crack, but GOD DAMN when you get through the shell.

Very dense and - as is to be expected with Billy Woods - exhausting. 'Race Music' is heavy to tackle and hard to unravel, certainly doesn't let all of its true colours shine right off and too clearly, mostly follows a repetitive, linear structure. There's not much variety in production style, sampling methods and editing, delivery, song-writing. The album overwhelms its intensity, it ties you to your seat and drills its messages, bars and straightforward heaviness in your head.

This album boasts variety, focus, and intelligence, while managing to sound badass at the same time. Billy Woods still sports his unorthodox flow, which always takes it's getting used to, but it's more endearing in it's finality. Elucid just nails every track so hard and there are some awesome features, specifically Busdriver on the song New Museum. This is easily my favorite hip-hop album of 2013, so I'm glad I caught it before the year was up. Fav songs: Willie Bosket, No Roses, New Museum

The true successor to Billy Woods's 'History Will Absolve Me' (with no offense to the excellent Elucid), Race Music is dense and eclectic, with the beats fully fleshing out the immense lyrical passages presented by the abstract duo. While 'Half Measures' was an interesting sonic experiment, it lacked cohesion, but showcased the two's massive potential in full collaboration. This, in its entirety, is it's fruition of form.
