Great album that's let down by repetitive and somewhat bland production, but Big L's skills are good enough to keep you listening. Could have been a masterpiece.

probably as hardcore as you can get with hip hop without being too horrorcore-y. also sprinkled in is some of the realest wisdom to kids growing up in rough places

The greatest hip-hop release in the history of man. Lyrically the album doesn't stray from its gritty roots, and it hosts some the darkest punchlines in rap. Not only is Big L at the top of his game, but the guest appearances are well up-to-par with some of the best in the business.

Big L got me into rap and remains one of my favorites. His flow is excellent and he's got some of the best punchlines I've ever heard. Being his only official album this contains some of his best songs, and includes a hilarious verse by a young Jay-Z. I love it.

Big L is a good enough MC assisted by some good beats with prevalent jazz elements, but this is nothing but pure street poetry. The lyrics are the center of attention as Big L tells tales of the streets assisted by witty punchlines and clever metaphors. Despite being his first album, Big L delivers a fantastic effort, but, Big L lived the life he spoke of, and was gunned down in 1999, and Lifestylez Ov Da Poor and Dangerous turned out to be his only album released when he was alive. R.I.P Big L (May 30, 1974 - February 15, 1999)
