| 4.0 excellent | Iai EMERITUS | June 27th 06 | Given the quality blackspots of live albums and double albums, one could be forgiven for thinking that Bright Moments is over-rated, and that The Inflated Tear is really were it's at as far as Rahsaan Roland Kirk goes. But nah. Bright Moments is the one that does it for me. It's fun, swingin' (see "Second Line Jump"), and just has plain better tunes (see "You'll Never Get To Heaven" and the gorgeous "Prelude To A Kiss"). It has some great segues, too - "Clickety Clack" is a poem musing on black music's fate, while "Talk (Bright Moments)" invites the audience to share the most special moments in their lives. Jazz is not exactly short of great live albums, but even so, this stands out.
