I love DGD. I love these songs. I'm even getting used to Tillian and his crazy high voice and enjoying it. But god, the production on this album is RUINING it for me. Everything is soooo muddled. Isn't this the guy who produced DBM2? The production on that album was flawless. WTF happened? Tillians voice overpowers everything else except for the drums. Will Swan is an amazing guitarist. I want to hear his leads ! All I hear is a wall of noise behind the vocals in lots of places. In others, I can sort of hear the guitars. Isn't this bothering anyone else ?

Tilian Pearson makes a stellar replacement as the new vocalist of the group and their strongest to date. The songs in particular are strong in production value and instrumentally incredible. Even though the lyrics sound ridiculous, sometimes a little ridiculous is required for music this energetic and lively.

Some of the songs on this (most notably the two released prior to the stream) are really catchy... A lot of them are really forgettable, though. Not sure how I feel about this yet. I love Tilian in anything he does, though.

Acceptance Speech doesn't have the greatest production ever. Acceptance Speech doesn't have the greatest lyrics. But that is okay, as the Sacramento-based group's 5th full length is still a rather enjoyable record.

Great album overall. Tilian is much more of a clean singer that is better at doubling and layering vocals rather than belting them out center stage. Jon Mess picks up the slack with his best performances yet, both lyrically and vocally. They work together very well. Instrumentally, the band takes steps forward and backward. Many songs are as creative as ever and flawlessly performed while others dip into dumbed down standbyes like screamo breakdowns. I get the impression that there are a bunch of Secret Band and Tilian Pearson songs and riffs kind of smashed together, as if they haven't had enough time to mix their influences and see what they come up with. In terms of production, the vocals just seem like they are too loud. The guitars are not as prominent as on previous records and I'd like the drums to be a little brighter and wider. I'm not smart enough to be able to read into the lyrics or themes to really understand what they are trying to say, but it will be fun to try.

After a few listens, it is easier to grasp how solid of an album this is. And the album gets better as you go on. Jesus H Macy is a solid opening track, and Human Hair Pt 4 is decent...but the album really picks up with Doom & Gloom, Honey Revenge, The Jiggler, and Back to the Future Pt II.rI won't ever be able to love a DGD album as much as DBM, but this comes very close.

Not rating much anymore on this site as I am just viewing and looking for news, but this one
I couldn't resist. I was curious to see how Tilian fit into the the progressive, funky,
jazzy, hardcore formula DGD has spewed out flawlessly over the years. I am pleased to say
this is possibly DGD best album yet, need to give it another spin though.

Swancore, so it's the usual shtick: top-notch guitar work and clean vocals tending towards the ridiculous side of angelic. A few other things impede from liking this one as much as their best records: Pearson sounds less good than Craig (ye, soz), and that fucking rapping part at the end of the t/t had nothing to do there.

This is probably DGD's low point for me. They're trying to cohere between Tilian's pop sensibilities and the rest of the group's PH chops, and Acceptance Speech fused the two into a bit of a malformed entity. There are certainly tracks that I quite enjoy here, but most of the record is poorly mixed, lyrically choppy, and unfocused overall. Still, the pieces are clearly there, and, luckily for us, DGD eventually figured out how to best pair Jon and Tilian and how not to mix Will out.

Dreadful production renders every part of this album a jagged, ugly mess, Tilian's vocals couldn't sound weaker or more strained, and none of the band members are even trying to be as wacky as they were on DBMII. Even Mess sounds tame here, roping in his usual gusto for plain, Rise-core shouts that betray his undeniable talent.

The production is lacking. Cant get past it. Some killer riffs in here from Swan and the gang but they're buried under the vocals and drums. Way too loud on both. And the bass guitar is nearly inaudible. DGD is the music first, vocals second! That's the way it should be, at least.

Different, but good. They should stay away from voice editing though. Tillian sounds better naturally and doesnt need his voice too be that high.
