vocals are pretty good but the instruments just seem to provide little to no atmosphere in most tracks. really hard to get into.

A slightly above average for the debut record from Dayshell, the somewhat passion-project of ex-Of Mice & Men guitarist/vocalist Shayley Bourget. There's a lot to like in the record - such as the varying tracks, as well as the multiple-genre songwriting influences. However, none of these songs really sick with the listener (at least, not with me), save for "Not Coming In", "Share With Me", and "Avatar". This ultimately feels like a blueprint for better things to come...and if that's the case, then great things are in store.

If you enjoy relaxed tones with a heavy mix emphasis on bass and vocals, I urge you to give Dayshell a try. Shayley's still figuring out exactly what he can do, but oh boy do his vocals soar.

Nothing remarkable nor is this worth coming back to as a whole aside from a couple songs. All I'm hearing throughout Dayshell's self-entitled debut offering are characteristics I've listened to via other contemporaries both past and present, and though the album isn't terrible by any stretch, the record is too vanilla for me to consider it a big first impression - and between the three basic ice cream flavors, that's the one this user cares for the least. The melodies are fortunately pretty cool occasionally and Shayley Bourget's vocal performance is at best likable (if not glorious), but the songcraft could be far better and the production quality is rather pedestrian for the main type of genre these boys perform. Enjoyable only in short bursts.

Bourget's voice is astonishing as I had expected, and every time I hear it I still am amazed at how cool it is. I had no clue what to expect as far as the music goes when I learned that he started this band, but it's actually pretty cool and suitable for his voice. This band is an instant Shayley & friends group (obviously via the name of the band itself) so unless he sings and writes all the music, the other members won't get nearly enough credit. Awesome debut though. High replay value.
