One of the strongest black metal releases of the decade. What really sets Nhor apart in the sea of one-man black metal acts lies in the minimalistic, atmospheric piano melodies. Often less is more with Nhor, and his ability to seamlessly switch from a crushing wall of black metal to sparse pianos is nothing short of impressive. Bonus points awarded for the quiet moments being just as captivating as the louder ones.

This will surround you with an enveloping atmosphere that is both powerful and unique, and prove
as smothering at is is freeing and fulfilling. Featuring a vast array of moods and emotions that
change gradually over the course of the album, culminating in an absolutely massive and visionary
final 10 or so minutes, this is atmospheric metal executed to perfection. As if that weren't
enough, some truly inspired and incredibly vicious riffs backed by simple but effective drumming
and bass work, both of which slowly gaining more and more of your focus as the albums progresses,
serve to hold your attention even if the projected mood isn't quite grabbing you.

Throw in some pretty bone chilling vocals, a variety of styles and song structures (though nothing
very far outside the realm of bm) and you have one of the most intricate, compelling, and
emotional black metal albums in years. A true masterpiece, the only thing keeping this from
classic status is that it sticks a little to closely to genre conventions and it's reluctance to
step outside itself even just a little, to reach for some true originality causes the only
disappointment I can think of with this.
Still, in time and with enough listens, I may prove myself wrong. My AOTY for 2013. Can't wait to
see what this artist creates next.
