It's decent, as per usual, but they have already made this album before - and better.rIt's like they write on the Pitchfork site: Pearl Jam on record have essentially been reduced to the rock ?n? roll version of wearing sweatpants: they?ve given up trying to impress anyone, so they may as well be comfortable.

Album is very good. Probably their best since Yield actually. They sound very comfortable in their skin, which is great since on the self-titled they seemed to be trying too hard to capture their former grungy-ness at times, and Backspacer was overly upbeat- and upbeat is fine, it just seemed a little awkward at times. This though... it's very balanced. "My Father's Son" "Pendulum" "Sleeping By Myself" and "Yellow Moon" immediately stood out to me. "Getaway" is a great opener and "Mind Your Manors" sucked as a single but works quite as a simple burst of energy on the album.

I would characterise Lightning Bolt a mature album, as mature as the band behind it. The album ticks many boxes as far as Pearl Jam are concerned: the grunge, the punk, the ballads, etc. The first half represents the 'lively' side of the album while the second is the sorrowful/balladry one. I would keep a handful of tracks from this one beginning with the exceptional "Sirens" - a delightful ballad of equal quality as "Black", the fascinating "Getaway", the atmospheric "Pendulum" and "Infallible".
